Latest News from the Red Lake Nation

Since the collapse of the Red Lake Nation’s economy in 2009, many have asked what has been happening on the reservation. In 2012, a documentary film was made about life in the Red Lake Nation called “The Rezoning of Red Lake.” The film follows the journey of three young people – two adults and a child – as they explore life on the reservation and its impact on their own identity.

The Rezoning of Red Lake is set to be released in theaters nationwide on September 14th. The resolution calls for “the immediate cessation of all construction activities” on the pipeline, and also asks President Obama to “direct the Army Corps of Engineers to withdraw all permits and permits applications related to the Dakota Access Pipeline.”

The Red Lake Nation joins tribes across North America in supporting Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their fight against the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline. The 1,172-mile pipeline would flow from North Dakota through South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois before ending at an oil terminal near Patoka, Illinois.
